Figures for housing starts and the average price for a new home are compiled separately from re-sale housing on the Multiple Listing Service.
Re-sales in Kelowna, says the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board, were also strong in 2001 with sales volume and total values also increasing 19 per cent during the year, to 2,060 and $391 million.
The average price of a re-sale home in Kelowna last year was $189,900.
According to the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board, December sales of homes increased 105% in 2001 from the previous year in the Central Okanagan.
Overall the increase in reidential real estate sales, including houses, condomimniums, farms, and undeveloped properties increased by 73.5% over the same period last year.
